Cider with Evans

Secret Orchard Cider

Beginning at Nettlecombe Estate on Exmoor in 2012, they now source apples from Cornwall and Somerset to make their ciders.

The three ciders I tried from them were all fine examples of traditional ciders, and would certainly get more of the Exmoor Mellow.

On a totally irrelevant point, they do have some of the most wonderful art deco labels.

Exmoor Clear

Medium Dry

Silver medal winner 2016 British cider championships

Copper, slightly hazy & sparkling.

Strong cooked apple & yeasty smell but not unpleasant.

Slightly oak wooden taste on the raw cooking apples, not particularly sparkling on the tongue. Sweeter aftertaste, slightly of caramel apple. Dry but without the tannin. Smooth and fairly easy on the pallet.
A cider to savour, but has enough flavour to go with food.

Probably would not buy more but it is quite nice. Nothing outstanding.

Holy Water

Medium

Made in the shadow of the 13th century church at Nettlecombe.

Light Golden, clear and slightly sparkling.

Sharp fresh apple nose.

Dry but not much tannin. Not the strongest flavour to be honest but nothing unpleasant. Smooth and easy to drink. Slightest brandy taste.

Very nice, but one to savour, not a session cider.
