Cider with Evans

So early on in the Covid lockdown in 2020 I had 4 realizations:

  1. Many of Britain's cider makers were suddenly sitting there with stock but no customers, and were therefore facing an uncertain future.
  2. Many of these makers provided mail order deliveries
  3. I was now stuck at home and able to be there for said deliveries without the usual faffing around
  4. I hadn't tried anywhere enough ciders

So I set out to slowly and surely over the next few years to get and try as many as possible. After a while I started keeping some tasting motes and this site is the result.

Where do you get the ciders? I've added links to the shops to each maker's page. Most do free postage when you buy 12 odd bottles, which is a bargain IMO. Other good places we've found is farm shops, that tend to stock at least one of the local ciders. Strangely the smaller farm shops tend to have the better ones.

My aim with this site is to give you a quick sense of what each cider is like without the excessive waffle you get on many tasting sites. I really don't want to wade through the author's life story nor the tale of adventure they went through to get the cider to find out what the cider tastes like. Forgive me therefore that many of the tastings sound similar, I can only find a limited number of ways to describe a nice smooth refreshing cider.

Take the ratings with a pinch of salt. They very much reflect my taste in ciders. I have to admit I prefer a nice straight cider with a strength around 5%, but the ratings go something along the lines of:

5 Loved it, have bought many cases over the last 2 years. It's what I regularly drink at the end of a day and is what I give to my non-cider drinking friends to try and convert them.
4 Very good. Would get some more, but wouldn't drink it over and over again.
3 Yup good, middle of the road. Would happily drink it in a pub.
2 Was drinkable, but would probably not go out of my way to get another. Would drink it in a pub though if the only other choice was something like Aspells, but I'd check out the beers as well
1 Not at all to my taste. Some may like it. For example many fruit ciders and hoppy ciders get 1, but others may like them
0 No, this is not at all nice. I doubt anybody that likes cider will like this. I must confess I've yet to find (or at least review) a cider that is undrinkable.

Note fake ciders such as Old M**lt mde with God knows what do not get reviewed and they would get some kind of negative number.

Enjoy. There's a world of ciders out there
