Cider with Evans

SeaCider

A very common cider in good pubs as they do specialise in BiB (Bag in Box) and do a big range of flavoured ciders. In fact, I must admit that at the moment I haven't yet tried their 'plain' ciders.

Good mail order experience where they sell a mixed case of small 3L pouches. The box they arrive in does scare the postman mind.

Packaging

This is the mixed pack of ciders from SeaCider. 4 x 3L pouches + 2 glasses, which is just perfect. It's worth it just for the box, and the rather alarmed look on the delivery driver's face.

Marmalade

Medium

Yellow colour, cloudy with a good fizz.

Slightly Jaffa Cake nose but it is subtle

Oh wow the flavour. Not heavily orange, well not as much as expected also not as sweet. There's a bit of orange In there but it kind of drifts off into apple pie territory for me. May have been because of what I was drinking before I admit.
After a while I’d say more like a Jaffa cake but not sickly sweet.

Anyway it’s not at all unpleasant and indeed very drinkable. The fact it's just a medium cider with Seville Oranges seeped in it as opposed to horrible artificial flavourings is a big positive.

Not sure I’d drink more than a pint as I'm not a huge fan of that kind of thing, but well worth a go.

Honeycomb

Medium Sweet

Light gold, cloudy and flat.

Big sweet toffee apple nose

Actually has a fair amount of sharp apple in the initial taste then that vanilla toffee kicks in giving you a very very buttery caramel sauce mellow flavour with a lingering cinder toffee aftertaste. It's a really decently balanced cider in that respect.

Seriously lovely and easy to drink, but as with all flavoured ciders more than a pint may be a struggle for me, but that pint is cracking.

Reminds me a bit of crème brulée a bit, which is probably why I like it.

Black Cherry

Medium Sweet

Surprisingly not pink but golden yellow with a ever so faint peach hint, clear and flat from the barrel

Gentle Black Cherry nose, not that artificial at all.

Good thick black cherry flavour but not sickly so. Not overly sweet. No tannin and not much apple flavour anywhere in there to be honest. Decent little aftertaste and leaves you with yes, black cherry. Those of us that remember black forest gateau will remember the flavour but nowhere near as sweet.

Happy with that one. Could easily drink a couple of pints I'd have thought. No artificial over-flavour and sickly sweetness. A good little fruit cider.

Medium

Medium

Light golden, hazy and flat (from the BiB)

Huge sweetish apple nose with a hint of honey. Not fresh apple but not fermented as well - something in between, very pleasant.

Nice mellow cider taste with lots of fruit. Little or no Tannin and very soft and buttery in the taste. Nice long refreshing aftertaste and goes down very easily.

There's not much going on in this one, but it is very very tasty and at 4.6% you could drink this for many pints before you got bored. It's very similar flavour wise to the Medium Dry and I think I preferred that one, but if you like your cider slightly sweeter go for this one.

Medium Dry

Medium Dry

Light golden colour, hazy and flat.

Decent sweet flowery apple nose. Very tempting. Little bit of strawberries in the background.

Really nice clear slightly flowery apple taste. Not fresh and biting and not fermented. A little bit like chewing into a raw cooking apple. Very little tannin, but a lovely long apple aftertaste.

Really nice and a bit different. Well worth searching out.

Very easy to drink. Not a hugely complex one but it doesn’t need to be.

Rhubarb

Medium Sweet

Cloudy light gold flat

Rhubarb nose; tick.

Quite rhubarby flavour but quite buttery. Not overly sweet and you actually get a bit of a tang at the back of the throat so you could drink quite a few of these. Decent long pleasant aftertaste.

A little tad artificial in flavour and I’ve had better rhubarb ciders but quite drinkable. Need to try cold.

Bakewell Tart

Medium Dry

Golden hazy flat (from BiB)

Almond nose but no fruit

Almond flavour with a decent hit of raspberry jam. It’s a lot drier and more tannic than I expected.not bad almond essence aftertaste and does leave a mouth wetness.

Really don’t think I could drink more than a half but it’s not as sweet and sickly as some of the flavoured ciders.

Lemon Meringue

Medium Sweet

Light golden, clear and flat.

Delicate vanilla lemon nose.

Not as sweet and sickly as expected. Very much lemon and meringue flavour. It's actually quite light and refreshing for a sweetinsh medium sweet. No tannin as usual for Seacider. Flavour is not as lemon and in your face as expected and not overly artificial even though it obviously is.

Perfectly drinkable but probably not more than a pint. Nice pallet cleanser of a cider.
