Rosie's Cider

A seriously good Welsh cider maker from Llandegla just outside Wrexham that deserves to be better known than it is. I have to say I liked all of their ciders and will be getting more. There's a lovely piece on their website on the history of their farm which is well worth looking up. I've seen their Wicked Wasp on some cider lists and from the bottle I've had, I'd certainly give it a go next time I see it. Mail order shop was nice and fast and usefully let you do a mixed case. Well worth following them on facebook as well as they regularly post some lovely garden/nature photos: https://www.facebook.com/rosiescider

Black Bart

Sweet

Golden, clear and sparkling

Nice deep, slightly oaky but fruity nose

Arrrr shipmates that be a nice cider. Lots of fruit but you can tell this has been oak matured as there is a lot of oak in there and if you try hard it has the dark rum coming through. Having said that it's not too woody and the slightly citrussy sweet fruit is balanced nicely. Nice long mouth watering aftertaste

Named after Black Bart (Barty Ddu) the pirate. Another very nice little cider from Rosie's. The oak dominates a bit too much for my tastebuds but it is a smooth flavour so if you like the oak matured, then it's another belter.

Wicked Wasp

Medium

Golden,clear and very sparkly

Nice sweetish nose but with a bit of wild yeast

Solid cider taste. In your face fruit with a hint of leather as it’s oak cask-conditioned. Bit of tartness in the middle with a nice refreshing little aftertaste. Not a huge amount of tannin but nicely balanced.

Very good little cider that one. Lovely deep flavour and very easy to drink. Would happily come back for more.

Triple D Dry

Dry

Gold, clear and sparkling

Lovely fresh apple nose with a bit of skins in there

Dry but fresh minerally clean apple flavour. Fair amount of tannin in there but unlike many dry ciders there’s a decent amount of flavour.

I like this for a dry minerally cider which are not my favourites I admit.

Triple D Medium

Medium

Dark golden, clear and sparkling

Deep fermented apple with hints of caramel and a slight yeastiness on the nose

OOh lots of Tannin for a medium, that's what you get up front; heavy tannin, slight mineral dryness. That dryness extends all the way through the middle into the aftertaste. Nice flavour though despite this, fair amount of skins and touches of wood with a bit of bittersharpness in there which leaves you with a nice puckering refreshing aftertaste.

Yeah not at all bad but I wouldn't call this medium! Bit dry for my taste but very drinkable indeed and would be quite happy to try it again. Must try it side by side with the dry one evening.

Triple D Sweet

Sweet

Dark golden colour, clear and slightly sparkling

Lots of honey combined with a little bit of farmyard on top of bittersweet apple as a nose

Oh curious taste for a sweet cider. Quite a bit of oak and tobacco up front which gives way to a sweetish caramel flavour and leads to a slightly bittersweet refreshing finish. Where the wood comes from is a good question as it’s not cask conditioned.

I would not call that sweet. Medium sweet at worse and probably medium. This is a very easy to drink little drop, and was very thirst quenching when my throat was full of dust after ripping ivy out of my hedge.

Cracking little drop.
