Cider with Evans

Pilton Cider

A Somerset cider maker that specialises in Keeved cider styles, so expect a slightly sweeter taste. Keeved cider, a traditional technique used to sweeten cider by preventing the yeast fully fermenting the apples. This is quite common in France but less so in this country. Fairly widely available and online via their site.

Tamoshanta

Medium Sweet

This is the 2021 batch so quite fresh. Partially fermented in oak whiskey barrels.

Copper, clear slightly sparkling.

Big heavy apple nose, slight toffee apple. The whiskey actually comes through a little bit like the smell of a Calvados.

Lovely rich flavour. Raisins caramel vanilla and smoke all combine with the apples. There is a slight oak overtones as it’s oak matured but not too intense. Says serve with cheese I agree.

Yes, not one to drink as a session. It’s one to savour. 4/5 would happy to get more as a post supper cider.

Somerset Keeved

Medium Sweet

Dark golden, clear and sparkling.

Nice deep rich honey/caramel nose

Interesting flavour. Very rich, slightly casked, with a Calvados like flavour. You get a lot of raisin as well which adds to the richness. Has some dryness in there for a Medium Sweet which balances out nicely. Long aftertaste where the fruit come out nicely.

This is one to savour as a post meal cider. It's easy to drink despite the richness, but you probably wouldn't want more than one

Labyrinth

Medium

Mainly Harry Masters but it is a blend.

Dark golden, very hazy & flat

Nice little light fruity sweet nose

Dry tannic and sharp initially but mellows slowly to be more medium, but you still get a fair amount of tannin dryness to the end. This is a typical flavour profile for the Harry Masters apparently. Long aftertaste and you eventually get a decent refreshing mouth wetness.

Quite dry for a medium I thought, but very drinkable.
