Ampleforth Abbey | Medium Dry | https://www.ampleforthabbeydrinks.org.uk/ampleforth-abbey-cider Golden clearish and flat from the keg. Not much of a nose, slightly farmyard. Dry farmhouse taste but with the dry fruit of fresh raw cooking apples. Slight tartness almost crab apple like but not a huge amount of tannin so the dryness is more pleasant than many.
Decent long milder and mouth watering aftertaste with a bit of straw in there. Treat with care at 6.5 but that is a decent little session dry cider. | ★★★★★ | 6.5% |

Angioletti Riserva Italian cider | Medium Sweet | https://www.angioletticider.com/ I'm reviewing this as it's available from many of the hight street supermarkets, so it's easy to get hold of. It is so far the only foreign cider I've reviewed (although I'd ove to get hold of some proper Normandy cidre to try out.. yum yum..) So what's it like? Pale yellow, clear, sparkling. Not a huge nose but it’s there and is of fresh apple skins, so so far so good. Fairly sweet and sherbety initial hit because of the fizz but actually has a decent apple content. It does then actually mellows to a more medium sweet flavour with a good lingering mouth watering aftertaste with plenty of fruit.
Quite refreshing and not bad but the sweetness would get to me personally quite quickly. So surprisingly it wasn't that bad actually, but must drink this one cold I think. From a single sample of Italian cider, 'Bravo'. | ★★★★★ | 6.8% |

Applesheds premium cider | Medium sweet | This is one of those ciders we're not supposed to like... Made by LWC drinks with no provenance (Herefordshire somewhere..) so probably nowhere near an orchard and made from concentrates etc etc but... Gold, clear and lightly carbonated Crisp rich apple nose. Gorgeous well balanced flavour. Crisp flavour with a sweet hint initially but then it balances out with a good sharpness so leaves a little bit of refreshing sourness. No tannin to speak of. This is not going to win any awards but on a hot summers day, that is a very refreshing pint and is interesting enough to make you want more so I would not say no to it at all. | ★★★★★ | 4.8% |

Barbourne Oak Cask | Dry | https://barbournecider.co.uk/ Copper colour and clear Heavy old cask nose. You don’t get the rum or whiskey just the outside of the barrel. Hmm. Mushrooms. Taste is of raw white mushroom along side a slight apple flavour - how strange. Earthy I guess some would call it. Not hugely astringent for a dry cider. That is so strange for a cask conditioned cider. I guess if you look hard you get a bit of the rum possibly.
But no, raw mushroom and a touch of vanilla. Thankfully I love raw mushrooms I can’t believe this is what it’s meant to taste like, or possibly my taste buds are now shot (it was in the middle of a long afternoon at the beer festival). Must try and get a bottle to try. | ★★★★★ | 7.4% |

Bereziartua Sidra Bere | Dry | https://www.bereziartuasagardoa.com/es/ Careful of the heavy sediment on this one. Dark straw colour, slightly hazy and flat Sharp acidic nose with apple skins and grapefruit This is a cider from Basque so it's quite different from the sweeter ciders I've had from Spain. Quite sour and acidic but plenty of fruit with a slight yeastyness. This one really grabs the back of the throat. Some tannin and a lovely long aftertaste that keeps the sharpness to the end. Different as it's a blend of Txalaka, Urtebia, Judeline, Judo and other Basque apples. A small bottle is probably right as the sharpness though nice and refreshing could be hard work after a pint. | ★★★★★ | 6% |

Biochemist Brewery Single Orbit | Dry | https://www.biochemistbrewery.com/cider Biochemist brewery are mainly a beer brewery, but they also make a cider, which is an interesting mix of Laxton apple and pear. They then refer to it as a single variety which is a bit naughty. Light golden, slightly hazy and sparkling Lovely sweet apple and honey nose and a small hint of smokiness from somewhere Ooh interesting. Fair amount of astringent tannin but there’s a lot of flavour there as long as you don’t roll it round the mouth too much which concentrates the tannin. Taste is mainly fresh apple, but there is pear in there but it’s only really becomes noticeable late on in the aftertaste. I guess it ’s there to sweeten and balance out the tannic apples. Not bad at all, a nice refreshing cider that’s been well blended. A new producer and one well worth looking out for. I’d be interested In seeing what it’s like on draught as I think the carbonation adds a lot and it would be nice to see it in bigger than the thumb sized 330ml cans. | ★★★★★ | 6.4% |

Bridge Farm Sparkling Pear | Medium | http://bridgefarmcider.co.uk/ Light yellow clear and slightly sparkling Nice sweet pear nose and slightly floral tones. That floral note is in there in the pear taste but without the common acetone pear drop taste you often get. This makes it more subtle than most but that is no bad thing at all. Decent aftertaste, quite long and refreshing but that floral edge is there all the way through. I quite liked this one. Goes down easy and not so in your face as many. I rated it as 3/5 but bordering on 4. This is actually a mix of Perry pears and some bramley apples. | ★★★★★ | 5.5% |

|
Burrow Hill Perry | Dry | https://www.somersetciderbrandy.com/ Light golden colour, clear and sparkling Not a huge Perry nose but it’s there Decent deep flavour with a subtle pear taste and avoids the pear drops you get in many pear ciders. Some have compared it to tinned pears and I can see that. Dry with a hint of Tannin but not overly so. Very refreshing and goes down very easily.
Would be a very good session Perry. | ★★★★★ | 6.3% |

Charrington's Cryals Classic | Medium | https://www.charringtonsdrinks.co.uk/ Pale yellow, clear sparkling. Ripe apple nose with a bit of flower. Fresh apple flavour with a slight rose petal tint, but not overpowering. Slightly dry aftertaste. Only comes in 330 or 750Ml bottles Nothing to write home about, fairly standard session cider. | ★★★★★ | 5.3% |

Cockeyed Chilli Ginger | Medium | Light, golden and cloudy Ginger and apple nose Hmm nice slightly bitter ginger taste. Not much of the apple comes through. You get a tiny amount of zing, whether that’s the ginger or chilli hard to tell. This builds up on the tip of the tongue That’s nice. I think it could do with chilling to be at it’s best but even at room temp it’s a pallet cleanser. Would like to try more I think that would do as a ginger beer replacement and I think chilled I could drink a fair amount. | ★★★★★ | 4% |

Crafty Al, Crafty Rhubarb cider | Medium Sweet | https://www.therealalcompany.co.uk/new-index Hard to get hold of this one as it seems to be keg only. I'm sure you can get it in their taproom, but I picked it up at The fine Wobblegate tap room in Sussex https://www.wobblegate.co.uk/. Deep red pink slightly hazy with a tiny bit of fizz. Slightly rhubarb and custard nose which takes me back to childhood immediately. There is apple in there as well in the background. Nice deep rhubarb and custard flavour but again with a bit of apple. There is a Sharpness in the background but the flavour pushes through nicely to balance it out. A very good tingle on the tongue. Nowhere as sweet as the flavour makes you expect. Really long smooth rhubarb aftertaste and isn’t at all cloyee. Very easy to drink. Quite refreshing and would be good on a summers day. | ★★★★★ | 4.5% |

Crones Special Reserve | Dry | http://crones.co.uk/ Dark golden slightly cloudy flat. Strong phenolic nose not too pleasant for me Strong phenols in the taste with wooden smokiness and tannin. Fruit is there with a slight tart tang that gets stronger. The phenols slowly fade leading to not a bad aftertaste. The smokiness and phenols are a bit it your face for this one so it’s not my favourite I must say. It’s not bad per se, but is an acquired taste. | ★★★★★ | 5.5% |

Curious Apple | Medium Dry | https://curiousbrewery.com/product/curious-apple/ A blend of Rubens and Bramley apples and using Bacchus wine yeast. Made by a beer brewery from Ashford in Kent. Clear pale yellow and sparkling keg cider Not a huge nose - fairy standard keg cider really Yes it’s a keg cider but not a bad one. Fairly deep bitter green apple taste. You can taste the Bramley’s in there. Crisp and fresh with a decent refreshing aftertaste. The tasting notes say a hint of Kiwi, but I didn't get that - I wonder if that's in there to attract the Od Mut bunch It’s a keg cider so it won’t set the world alight but it’s perfectly acceptable if it’s on the taps. | ★★★★★ | 5.2% |

Drove Orchard Sparkling | Medium Sweet | https://droveorchardsfarmshop.com/ and online sales at:
https://thenorfolkhub.co.uk/product/drove-orchards-sparkling-cider/ Ok this was an odd one. We came across this cider when having lunch at Snape Maltings, a fairly posh classical music venue in Suffolk. I can't say I had huge expectations.. Golden almost peach slightly hazy sparkling Strong apply nose with slight floral and ginger Very rich mature apple flavour, again a slight ginger tang. Slight tannin and nettle in there. Very rich deep apple flavour but quite complex. I get rhubarb nettle peach. Nice long lingering aftertaste. Much to my surprise this was very refreshing and is a decent little drop. Would be quite happy to have again and paired very wll with the huge fish finger sandwich we had for lunch. | ★★★★★ | 5% |

Hallets Real Cider | Medium | https://halletsrealcider.co.uk/ Made near Caerphilly in South Wales which is not a traditional cider area I suppose. Light yellow, clear sparkling. Straight fresh cider nose. The Real Cider is made from aged Dabinett cider and blended with the current year’s new cider. The result is a good straight uncomplicated medium dry I'd say cider. Nice and sharp with a good bite but without a huge amount of fruit flavour. Very easy to drink. The apples are grown at altitude (well For South Wales) which was appropriate as we first came across this in a pub in Trefil (the highest village in Wales) after a long walk in the hills in the blazing sun. It was vert refreshing and ery welcoming. It tastes like a session cider so be careful of the strength. Apologies for the Strongbow glass in the picture - it's what they served it in. It didn't spoil the flavour mind. | ★★★★★ | 6% |

Hawkes Urban Orchard | Medium Dry | https://wearehawkes.com/ Tinned cider - boo hiss. Golden, clear and sparkling Decent fruity cider nose but not much to it. Taste wise, fairly fruity bittersweet cider with a small amount of tannin. Has a small amount of residual sweetness so I'd call it more medium rather than medium dry personally. Fairly short aftertaste, but it does leave you nicely refreshed and ready for more. Perfectly acceptable, but nothing special so if you see this in a 'bar' don't get fooled into thinking it's premium as it's in a small tin ( I was surprised by the cost in some places...) To be fair directly from the maker, the price is dead on so get it from there. They also have a brewery tap in Druid St near Tower Bridge in London - must visit next time I'm in the area. | ★★★★★ | 4.5% |

Haygrove Evolution Medium Sweet Blackberry | Medium Sweet | https://shop.haygrove-evolution.com/collections/once-upon-a-tree-cider Ruby red, clear and flat. Curious nose, smells more like a Framboise than blackberry I have to say. Same's true about the taste really. You don't get Blackberry per se, but you do get that slightly tart belgian fruit beer flavour (which I happen to like). Very little tannin, but you do get a little fizz in the aftertaste and eventually it does mellow to a decent cider flavour. Better than most fruit ciders I have to say, and I could easily see myself finishing off an evening with one of those in the same way as you would with a Kriek or a Framboise. Slightly too sweet for a session cider for me. | ★★★★★ | 4% |

Somerset Orchard Cider - Haywood Rosie | Dry | https://www.somersetorchardgarden.com/our-ciders Peach, hazy sparkling. Be very careful of sediment I probably didn’t let this settle enough. Light sweet cider nose. Quite dry and gets drier but not too astringent. Fair amount of tannin. Very full bittersweet flavour which is quite sharp and reminds you of sharp fresh apple. The aftertaste is nice long and lingering with a bit of cooked apple and some floral tones. Well rounded little cider. Not sure I could do a session on it but its recommended. Sadly they don't seem to do mail order which is a shame so you may need to do some shopping round or get it if you're down in Somerset. I can't exactly remember where I picked this up in Wells but I wish I'd got more. | ★★★★★ | 6.4% |

Healeys Scotch Whiskey | Medium | https://healeyscyder.co.uk/ Copper coloured, clear and lightly sparkling You’re hit by a nice sweet whisky nose as soon as you open the bottle. Stick your nose in it and you get caramel and nutmeg. Inviting to say the least. Lots of whiskey cask in the flavour but not much smoke which is fine. Starts sweet but dries out a little in the middle and aftertaste. Right at the end you get a sweetish orange or praline hint, we couldn’t agree which, and this makes this very moreish which is lethal at 8%. Roll it round your tongue and you get a little bit of smoke and the fruit really comes out. Lovely little cider this. You don’t feel the strength which is dangerous and the whiskey cask is there but not overpowering so you can still remember it’s a cider. Not a session cider but certainly a bottle to share and savour amongst friends. | ★★★★★ | 8.4% |

Hydes Premium Medium Dry Cyder | Medium Dry | https://hydescyder.com/ A Hampshire based cider maker Light golden, clear and sparkling. Sweet honey like nose on top of the rich apple pulp nose - delightful Oh that is nice. Lively in the mouth from the start. Quite sharp but that's balanced nicely with a honey smoothness. Good fresh apple skin flavour overall with a little bit of Tannin. Long gentle sweetening aftertaste leaving a lovely refreshing feel and a smooth apple taste. This is a damn nice session cider. It's got a good balance of sweetness and tartness that should appeal to most. It's fresh and refreshing and I find quite interesting. Well worth trying and I'd get a box for summer evenings. | ★★★★★ | 5% |

Ashton Manor Kings Cider | Medium Dry | Golden clear and flat. Sharp crisp fresh apple nose with plenty of skins Quite sharp, tart and bitter initial mouth feel but not unpleasant. A good session cider especially on a boiling hot day. | ★★★★★ | 5.5% |

Loxley Classic Blend | Medium Sweet | https://loxleycider.uk/ Pale Amber yellow, clear and slightly sparkling. Decent yeasty fermented apple nose. Says with Honey and Rose on the tin, but I can't say I got that. Still very nice mind you. Yup, very nice mature apple flavour, slightly bittersweet and a little bit of zing on the tongue. Hardly any tannin. Well balanced and not too sweet. Very refreshing to boot. You could easily drink this in a session and there's enough in the flavour to keep it interesting. Loxley are based up in Nottinghamshire which is unusual, not much cider up that way as far as I know. They do another flavour with Rosehip and Sloes which may be interesting to try. | ★★★★★ | 4.5% |

MacIvor's Medium Cider | Medium Dry | https://macivors.com/ An Irish cider. Blend of 10 apples with an emphasis on desert apples Straw yellow clear big head. Slightly yeasty apple nose with plenty of fresh apple smell. Good sharp apple flavour with slight sweet overtones from the desert apples initially. Then it goes a bit bittersweet and actually quite pleasant, a country mile better than Magners etc. Decent apple flavour and goes down quite well. Nice long mouthwatering aftertaste. Good session cider for a hot day. I would drink more happily. If only it would replace Magners in pubs... | ★★★★★ | 6.5% |

Malvern Gold | Medium Dry | https://malvernciderco.co.uk/ I've got a bottle of this but I also tried it out of the BiB while I was down in Fishguard. So on draught: Gold, clear and flat Interesting nose. Lots of straw farmyard funk Dryish texture to the flavour which is mainly of red apple skins with a bit of tang. Bit of pulp with a fair amount of tannin. Long quite dry slightly oaky aftertaste. Not bad at all. Perfectly decent little session cider. | ★★★★★ | 6% |

Mayador Sparkling | Medium Dry | https://en.mayador.com/sparkling_cider Spanish cider - why not. Very sparkling - be careful when opening! Light golden colour, clear and sparkling as I mentioned. Not a huge nose but you do get the whiff of fresh apple. Very different from UK ciders. It has a totally different flavour profile. Deep slightly sweet but very mellow and a curious kind of fluffy texture, strange but pleasant. No tannin. Can’t really put a finger on the flavour. Quite nice though but possibly a bit sweet, I wouldn't call it medium dry certainly. | ★★★★★ | 4.1% |

New Forest Medium Dry | Medium Dry | https://www.newforestcider.co.uk/ From the bottle, very hazy with sediment so let it settle. Copper golden colour and flat. Big acidic cider nose with a tart bite in the back of the nose Quite tart scrumpy cider flavour. Good fresh apple coming through with a little bit of tannin. Mellows quickly to a nice long aftertaste with lots of apple. Very refreshing and full of fruity flavour. 4/5 for flavour but it’s a shame it came in small 330ml bottles and you lose a lot to the sediment. Would be interesting to try this on draught. | ★★★★★ | 6% |

Old Stag Dabinett | Medium Dry | https://www.oldstagcider.com/ Golden clear and sparkling Slight phenol nose but soon gives way to a strong dry apple nose (think skins) Taste wise it’s totally different. An initial woody oak taste gives way to a rich apple flavour. Plenty of tannin, and a fairly soft astringency unless you really swill it round your mouth. There’s a bit of vanilla in there and that comes out in the aftertaste. Pretty well balanced for a single variety cider. Not bad at all. | ★★★★★ | 6% |

Pearsons Medium Dry No 2 | Medium Dry | https://www.madeslow.co.uk/ A blend of Yarlington Mill, Harry Masters, Dabinett, and Brown's apples by all account, so a fairly standard mix. Golden, clear and slightly sparkling Straight sweetish cider nose with a bit of skin, very pleasant. Big thick apple pulp flavour with a good balance of the slight sweetness with a slight sharp overtone. Grabs the back of the throat and tingles at the same time. Tiny amount of tannin. The flavour fills the mouth with a good long smooth but very refreshing aftertaste. I liked this one. Would work as a session cider as its nice and interesting and refreshing with it. A little bit of tartness on the flavour balances the bittersweet flavour out nicely. Must get the rest of the range. | ★★★★★ | 5.8% |

Prior's Tipple Medium Dry | Medium Dry | http://www.priorstipple.co.uk/ Clear light amber yellow, lots of fizz that lasts.
Vanilla and wood and a bit of leather on the nose as well as the apple, lovely and rich. Taste is pretty good as well. Catches well on the back of the throat. Nice deep trad cider taste similar to Stowford press but with more oomff. Again that slight vanilla and desert apples with a small amount of smoky caramel. Nice lingering dryish aftertaste. Very refreshing, but at 6.5% it's quite pokey as it says on the bottle (in small print). Apparently Lord Wemyss invited the maker onto his estate to revive the tradition of making Cotsold Cider. Well done m’lord and well done to the maker Isaac Nixon. Hard to get hold of, so if you can do so. I only picked up one bottle of this in the M5 Gloucester Services of all places on the way to a holiday in Wales but would get more if I could. | ★★★★★ | 6.5% |

Pulpt Flare | Medium Sweet | https://www.pulpt.co.uk/ A new style cider maker based in the west country. Straw coloured, clear and slightly sparkling. Nice clean fresh apple nose. Nice taste. Quite intense dried apple flavour. Bit citrussy with it. Bittersweet and rolls off the tongue with nice lingering aftertaste.
Available from some Tescos last time I looked so well worth looking into. Says sweet but it's not that sweet in my opinion and sits on the medium sweet I'd say. Very good for a 'modern' cider maker - must try the rest of the range. | ★★★★★ | 4.9% |

Rebel Root Gypsy Soul | Dry | https://www.wobblegate.co.uk/pages/ciders This is an East meets West experiment mixing Dabinett(West) and Braeburn (East) apples and then matured for 6 months in a whisky casks. Straw yellow colour, tiny bit hazy and sparkling from the tin. Quite a strong sour yeasty nose on this one but the fruit's there in the background. Oh woody! So woody I double check that it's not an oak tin. The initial taste of oak and slight smokeyness is underpinned by a quite sharp tart fruit in the background but the fruit does get drowned out slightly. Quite astringent and tannic as you'd expect but it doesn't give you that dry teeth feel which is good IMO. That tartness only mellows very slightly and the wood keeps going well into the aftertaste. All this talk of wood would make you think I didn't like it, but to be honest it's fairly drinkable if you like the tart dry ciders and I did find it quite refreshing. As you go through the pint the flavours even out a bit it has to say to a quite interesting little flavour profile. I certainly wouldn't say no to another and this would be a good one to have with strongly flavoured food like a nice smokey curry. | ★★★★★ | 6% |

Sam's cider Autumn Scrumpy | Medium Dry | https://winkleighcider.co.uk/ As you can see from the photo, I tried this at a Beer Festival (Ely to be accurate) Clear, straw coloured and almost transparent Fruity phenol nose. Very nice. Not as much flavour as expected. Dryish with a fair amount of tannin but not over astringent. As they say, wine like. Not a huge apple flavour and what's there has a slight sharpness to it. I also found it a little bit Perry like to me as well as being a scrumpy. Long lingering aftertaste and nice and refreshing. Perfectly drinkable little Scrumpy I think but lacks a little bit of flavour. | ★★★★★ | 7.4% |

Sassy Cidre & Poire | Medium | https://www.maison-sassy.com/en/ A Normandy cider maker but one that's getting quite common over here now, so it feels churlish not to try it. They tend to specialise in low alcohol ciders by the look of it, but I'm not going to judge This year’s big hyped cider – seems to be in every 'best ciders of 2022' list, so I had to give it a go. Thanks to my mate Ben for buying me a bottle. Golden, clear and very fizzy. Big sweet fruity pear nose, so far not bad Oh that’s sweet, flavour is ok and a little crisp, but that is sweet. Actually feels powdery as if there’s icing sugar in it and left a slight grating sensation on my teeth. A certain amount of acidity comes through eventually but the sweetness also hangs around. A shame it’s so sweet, as the underlying flavour and acid is actually quite nice. If you like sweet sweet ciders then go for it, but it’s sickly for me, and I was grateful it was in a small bottle. Only 2.5% so they need to turn more of the sugar to alcohol – one for the kids. Low alcohol seems to be a growing trend and if this is typical they can keep it. | ★★★★★ | 2.5% |

Seidr Celtaidd - Afal | Medium | https://celtic-marches.myshopify.com/collections/all This cider is made by Celtic Marches but it's not listed on their main site so I've added the link to their online shop. Apple is English for Afal if you're wondering (as in Avalon - single f is pronounced v in Welsh). Straw colour, clear and sparkling Straight gentle farmyard nose, fair amount of straw and apple pulp. Decent flavour. Soft, pulpy sherbety green apple flavour with a fair amount of tannin. Peach In the flavour and a touch of wood and vanilla. Fairly soft aftertaste but refreshing enough. Not bad at all, won’t set the world alight but it’s a perfectly good session cider. | ★★★★★ | 4.5% |

South West Orchards - Modern craft cider | Medium Dry | https://twitter.com/sworchards?lang=en-GB Another one we're not supposed to like as it's from an undisclosed producer and made for LWC drinks limited According to the bottle it's a mix of Yarlington Mill, Dabinett, and Harry Masters Jersey cider apples, with a small quantity of dessert apples added. Golden clear flat Big rich nose of mature fruit with a bit of a calvados. Smooth texture but with a deep fruit flavour with a touch of caramel which again reminds me of calvados. Little bit of tannin but well balanced with the desert apple, and it gives a nice long sweetish finish which I found refreshing and easy to drink. Again not one to win awards but very nice on a hot day, but note on no account should you serve over ice and with a slice of desert apple! For crying out loud what is the world coming to... | ★★★★★ | 5% |

Spinney Abbey - Monk and Disorderly | Medium Sweet | *https://www.spinneyabbey.co.uk/cider Another local cider and one I intend to visit soon. I tried this at the end of a session at the Ely beer festival. Straw green colour and slightly hazy Sweetish slightly honey nose Either my taste buds are shot or that has a cumin or coriander tang initially which fades over time. Bittersweet apples dominate here with lots of tannin. I’m getting a slight malted barley flavour and a slightly refreshing aftertaste. I think I like it. By now in the session my taste buds were getting jaded so need to get more to try. | ★★★★★ | 6.1% |

Stable Rapscallion | Medium Dry | https://stablepizza.com/ This is the house cider of the Stable Pizza and Cider House. We tried the one in Winchester and it actually had a decent range of ciders and they don't mind you just popping in for a drink. There's several others around so do go and try them. Golden, fizzy and clear Decent fresh apple skin nose. Quite a lot of crisp sharp juicy apple pulp fruit initially going slightly minerally in the middle and a lovely mouth watering aftertaste. This is a cider that fills your cheeks as you drink it. For a house cider this is not at all bad, and even if this was all they served they'd be fine, but they do usually have 15 odd on tap so I'd go for the tasting. | ★★★★★ | 6.5% |

Sting Tuck's Tipple | Medium | I've no idea who Sting Cider is as they seem to have no internet presence... Golden, clear and flat Not a huge nose, a gentle apple. Slightly watery sweetish apple flavour with a bit of straw. A bit apple juice like and quite sweet. A little bit of tannin and quite a short but clean aftertaste. A bit disappointing flavour wise. Nothing bad, but just a bit dull, but it does the job. | ★★★★★ | 4.7% |

Starvecrow Cyder | Dry | I have no idea who makes this cider, but I tried it down in Rye in East Sussex. Slightly cloudy, straw yellow, slightly sparkling on keg. Sour, wild yeast nose Sour apple and fizzy on the tongue, bit like a tart apple sherbet. Mellows later but keeps that slight citrussy tartness. You get a bit a bit more fruit taste in the refreshing aftertaste. Good if you like the sour ciders and it’s well worth trying if you see it, but I’d have a half first as we did. | ★★★★★ | 5.5% |

Normal acidic and bitter sharp redstreak flavour. Slightly sharp but lots of fruit. As usual for me these ciders mellow to a cheesy taste no different this one reminds me of a Wensleydale. Thornborough Sparkling Brut Cider | Medium Dry | http://thornboroughcider.co.uk/ A Yorkshire cider maker making a limited supply so it's quite hard to find. Another place that swaps apples for cider. Champagne style, so open with care, it does fizz. Pale yellow, slight haze. It has a sediment so careful when pouring. Light yellow clear and sparkling. Small bubbles with a long lasting fizz. Lovely clean apple smell. Decent flavour with a little bit of a citrus tang. Dry on the back of the throat and a decent amount of tannin, but it's well balanced. Nice clean aftertaste. They top the cider off with some fresh Dabinett cider before final corking and that's the flavour that comes through as a nice fleshy fruit. Can’t say it’s refreshing but I’d certainly drink it as celebration cider on a hot summers garden party. | ★★★★★ | 6.5% |

Toit Stray Apple | Medium Dry | https://www.strayapple.in/ Ok, this is going to be an odd one. Toit is an North Indian brewery based in Himachal Pradesh (Himalayas), not exactly a cider heartland I have to say. I have no idea where this tin came from as well so I have visions of a monk sneaking it into my stash in the dead of night. Straw yellow, slightly hazy and sparkling Curious nose. Slight musty, funky nose with only a hint of apple Very unusual flavour. There is crisp green apple there if you roll it round your mouth but there is a waxy phenol flavour on the edge which I find a bit off putting. Decent mix of sweet and tart in the flavour and a fairly short aftertaste. It is crisp nice and fruity and it is refreshing but that slight hint of phenol is not for me. | ★★★★★ | 5% |

Troggi Seidr | Dry | Golden, sparkling and clear Apple wild fermented nose. Very dry. Fresh apple flavour but with lots of Tannin, so the dryness kind of sucks the taste out of it. Bittesharp apples dominate on this one. Slight hint of raisin in the middle and aftertaste. Quite a short dry aftertaste. Not bad but not brilliant. I expected a little bit more apple flavour and it’s a bit dry for my personal taste but it’s not bad dry so if you're a fan of the tannic dry ones then it's the one for you. Troggi is a tiny little Cidery just outside Chepstow and astonishingly in this day and age have no online presence at all. If you google online you'll find an email address but I'm not sure whether you can do orders that way. Get it whee you can in that case. Umbrella London apple Cider | Medium | https://theumbrellaproject.co.uk/product-category/beer-cider/ This one popped up at my local craft beer bar. Whether it's a proper cider is hard to tell from the website, but I'm going to put it with the other hipster ciders for now Pale gold, cloudy and slightly sparkling Good straight cider nose Fruity, medium flavour with a fair amount of depth. Little bit of pear flavour in there for me which I think comes from the Cox. This is a blend of Dabinett and Cox. No tannin and a perfectly good session Cider by being very refreshing, but won’t set the world alight. | ★★★★★ | 4% |

West Bradley Somerset Cider | Medium Sweet | Well this one is a shame as this cider maker no longer exists as the orchard got sold. If you see a bottle though, grab it/ Pale gold, almost clear and flat Decent traditional cider nose and slightly sweet bit of honey Oh that’s not bad. Decent mature red apple flavour. Lots of body, no tannin and a decent refreshing aftertaste. You could drink this all day easily. Nice drop. | ★★★★★ | 4.5% |

Mr Whitehead's Hampshire Perry | Medium Sweet | https://www.mr-whiteheads-cider.co.uk/ A mix of Doyenne du Comice, Thorn, Blakeney Red and conference Straw colour and slightly cloudy Lovely fresh pear juice nose. You can smell the conference in there. Bang. Lots of fresh pear fruit in the first sip that fills the mouth. Very genuine pear taste no artificial pear drops here. Takes a long time for the pear to dissipate which is no bad thing. A nice biscuity flavour come out during the middle and aftertaste. Considering how weak this is, that is a huge amount of flavour. This is achieved by mixing a first and second pressing. The second pressing re-hydrates the fruit to get out more flavour and colour. Some would complain this is adding water, but in this case it's no bad thing IMO. A little bit sweet possibly but I could easily see myself having several of these of a summer evening as long as it was nicely chilled. | ★★★★★ | 3.8% |

Wilce's Medium Cider | Medium Dry | https://www.wilces.co.uk/ Dark copper, slightly hazy, mild sparkle. Nice fresh apple skin nose. Lots of tannin in the initial taste, but there is a lot of fruitiness and farmyard taste in there as well. Not a subtle cider by any means. Very mouth puckering, quite astringent. Aftertaste is still the apple but it gets much more medium and mouthwatering. Very much on the dry side of medium dry but not bad, If you like the dry ciders then go for it, but it was a bit too dry for my taste | ★★★★★ | 6% |

Wobblegate Medium | Medium | https://www.wobblegate.co.uk/ In 2023
Golden, slightly hazy and sparkling from the can. Big nettle or elderflower nose on top of the apple. That earthy herby nose, slightly sour. Bit of burnt toffee in there as well. Yup that nettle/elderflower is there in the flavour as well. Tart herby and astringent. I guess that comes from the wild yeasts used. Not much fruit flavour and the aftertaste is quite dry with a bit of a musty tone. I'd call it medium dry or dry, not medium personally. Now this isn't a session cider in my opinion but it's not bad and a bit different. Tried again in 2024
Taste is now fresher. Still get the herbyness, but more tart apple now. The aftertaste is now cleaner and more refreshing from memory. Very good little session cider now and I’d have no trouble drinking lots of it. | ★★★★★ | 5% |

Woodredding Perry | Medium | https://www.woodreddingcider.co.uk/ Mind the sediment. Golden, slightly hazy and flat. Slightly tart pear drop nose. Ooh nice flavour. Deep Perry Pear flavour but very mellow and smooth. Slight musty cask flavour as you’d usually get from cask matured ciders but they don’t mention that on the bottle. You would easily be fooled into thinking this was a cask matured cider. Leads to a nice pear drop aftertaste with a slight sharpness at the end. That is very nice indeed and I could easily see a session on that well chilled | ★★★★★ | 6.6% |

Woodshed Medium | Medium | So this is an odd one in that it's a cider made for Earthshare, an eco-friendly grocer in Glastonbury (https://www.earthfare.co.uk/). I have no idea who makes it for them as it doesn't appear on the web anywhere. So if you're down at the festival pop in to get a bottle alongside your lentils. Dark copper, slight haze, very very lively so open with care. Nice big alcoholic cider nose, almost like a calvados. Nice dryish start with lots of apple quickly mellowing to a medium with lots of caramel overtones. That caramel hangs around in a nice long aftertaste. If you sip it and roll it over the tongue you again get that hint of calvados. This is a very nice cider indeed, which is why it's a shame I can't find out who makes it. It's made in Street, so Hecks may be a candidate but I can't be sure. | ★★★★★ | 4.2% |

Newt in Somerset - Yarlington Mill No 3 | Sweet | https://shop.thenewtinsomerset.com/uk/t/4/categories/cyder Very dark golden colour almost copper. Clear and sparkling. Not much of a nose. Slightly yeasty fermented apple. Sweet baked apple flavour but balanced with a bit of sharpness. Not a huge flavour to be honest and you're left with a toffee flavour in the aftertaste. Not bad but nothing to write home about I have to say. It’s sweet but does have a little sharpness to balance out so unless you like them sweet I'd define this as a desert cider Not bad, but I don't think I could drink a huge amount. | ★★★★★ | 5% |
