Cider with Evans

Greggs Pit Cyder

I was looking for some fine cider to go with Christmas lunch 2025 and nestled next to some Oliver's cider I came across Gregg's Pit, and both were spot on I have to say.

Dabinett & Yarlington Mill 2024

Medium

Dark amber, slightly hazy, very sparkling

Slightly sulphite floral nose but the mature cider is very much there

Oh lots of rich apple in the taste. Some orange and spice in there and not too much tannin but a pleasant sweetness. Lovely long raisin taste in the aftertaste.

Cracking little celebration cider, only let down a bit by the nose for me that will not disturb all I’m sure.

Perry

Medium

Light golden, slight haze and sparkling. Be careful of the sediment

A nose with a farmyard tang but not unpleasant sharp and fruity

Flavour is complex. Sharp citrus fruits but with a decent sweetness that balances it all out very nicely lemon and lime and of course pear in the background. Slight mineral dryness in the top of the mouth but mellows nicely in the end

That is a cracking vintage. You could drink a lot of that and the taste is robust enough to go with the richest foods. Would love to see how that went with beef of lamb.
