Cider with Evans

Brecon Beacons Cider

Hails from the little village of Bwlch in Bannau Brycheiniog. I rate their medium cider and especially when sparkling, but wasn't so keen on the sweet.

They don't have a website nor online shop but they do have a facebook page. I managed to find them in a cider barn down in Sussex so you may be able to get them from some online shops. Otherwise you need to hit some of the local markets.

Black Mountains Beauty - Medium Sparkling

Medium

Lots of sediment in this one so let it settle and open with care if you don't like the sediment (I don't)

Copper slightly hazy (depends) sparkling

Sharp wild yeast nose but with fermented apple in the background

Tobacco predominantly in the first mouthful with a bittersweet apple but a bit of tang. You get a lot of oomph in the middle with a solid mature apple cider flavour and a long bittersweet aftertaste. Some cinder toffee in there as well and a hint of orange.

Very nice. The sparkling lifts the flavour nicely and makes this a robust interesting little cider. Cracking first cider from a new maker to me.

Black Mountains Beauty - Medium Still

Medium

Dark golden, slightly cloudy and flat

Nice deep rich nose with just a hint of honey. Very Nice

Oh a nice. Not the deepest of flavours, but nice and solid fermented apple taste with a bit of tobacco in the initial taste. Slight hints of honey, slightly floral with a touch of tannin. As with the sparkling, there'sa long aftertaste but it's not as pronounced.

Very similar to the sparkling version, but not quite as pronounced. Both are damn good session ciders though.

Sugar Loaf - Medium Sweet

Medium Sweet

Huge amount of sediment in this one so beware.

Deep golden, slightly cloudy (if you're careful) and flat.

Slightly sweet honey nose but with plenty of fermented apple in there.

Very honey based flavour but not too sickly sweet. Curiously not much apple in there initially but it does develop to a fresh desert apple juice flavour eventually. No tannin and a fairly long sweet aftertaste.

Not a huge amount to this one sadly it's too dominated by the added sweetness which drowns out the apple flavour.
