Cider with Evans

Barbourne cider

I can't say I know much about this Worcester based maker as I've only come across their cider at beer festivals and they don't do mail order yet which is a shame.

Barbourne Oak Cask

Dry

Copper colour and clear

Heavy old cask nose. You don’t get the rum or whiskey just the outside of the barrel.

Hmm. Mushrooms. Taste is of raw white mushroom along side a slight apple flavour - how strange. Earthy I guess some would call it. Not hugely astringent for a dry cider. That is so strange for a cask conditioned cider. I guess if you look hard you get a bit of the rum possibly. But no, raw mushroom and a touch of vanilla. Thankfully I love raw mushrooms

I can’t believe this is what it’s meant to taste like, or possibly my taste buds are now shot (it was in the middle of a long afternoon at the beer festival). Must try and get a bottle to try.
