Cider with Evans

Saxby's cider

We discovered Saxby's cider first in a cracking little pub called The Little Ale House in Wellingborough and if you're ever in the area then it's well worth visiting for a good range of ciders.

We tried 2 of Saxby's ciders there on draft, the Plum and the Medium. Both were not at all bad, and I intend to try the others when I get a chance.

Medium Original

Medium

Golden, clear and sparkling

Very subtle nose, slightly tart notes

Big initial desert apple flavour which is not a surprise as it's a blend of desert and cider apples. That desert apple flavour freshens a little bit so you get a nice crisp sharpness. There's a little bit of dryness to balance out the sweetness from the desert apples. Little bit of plum when you roll it round the tongue

Very nice little refreshing cider.

Plum

Medium Sweet

Rust red, clear and sparkling

Not much of a nose but a faint plum tone

Not bad at all, and not as sweet as I expected. Decently sharp with a bit of tartness that balances out the sweetness. The Plum flavour is there but not overpowering. It has a light gentle aftertaste leaving you nice and refreshed

The plum flavour is there but it's not overpowering nor artificial which is a good thing in my opinion. For a fruit cider it's quite refreshing and not oversweet so you could settle in for a nice long session on this one.

Original

Dry

From the barrel. Clear, golden yellow with the slightest sparkle.

Not a huge nose but there is a bit of floral apple.

Very fresh taste, lots of cooking apples and slight pear. Bit of caramel, teeny tiny bit of violet so you’d say a bit floral in the taste. Some tannin but not much and a decent sharpness Very nice and refreshing and a decent little session cider.
