Cider with Evans

Rawlins Family Cider

A family producer from the wonderfully named village of PuddleBridge in Somerset. I've only tried 2 of their ciders (but they are available from a local Off licence here in Cambridge) and both were not at all bad. I must confess I preferred their unfiltered medium over the dry but that is a personal preference

Dry

Dry

Dark golden, clear and flat even from the bottle.

Powerful slightly sour nose but not at all unpleasant.

Dry, slightly astringent tart apple flavour. Slightly soapy tones for me but isn't that significant Fair amount of tannin and slightly wooden tones. Long dryish after taste but it does leave a decent mouth watering effect.

Not the best dry cider I've had. That slight soapy tone is a bit off putting for me although that does seem to go after a while.

Medium

Medium

Golden orange, hazy and flat even from the bottle.

Interesting nose. There's apple there but it has hints of sweet and sour or chutney. Not at all bad mind.

Oh lovely flavour. Big medium wash of bittersweet apples initially (and don't worry, no chutney flavour). There's a fair amount of tannin in there that then dries out the mouth, but the aftertaste is nice and juicy leaving you with a slightly citrussy apple skins flavour.

I like that. It's much nicer than the Dry for me and is a lot easier to drink
